Founded in 1967 by the siblings Mario and Francesco D'Amico, the company D&D Italia, present on the market under the brand name D'Amico, is among the main Italian companies operating in the field of preserved vegetables.
 
At the beginning, the two brothers Mario and Francesco set up their business activity by selling “anchovies from the Amalfi Coast”, but from the early 1970s they turned to the preservation of vegetables, mushrooms and olives, in the course of time building up a wide range of products. Today's core business constitute the following: vegetables preserved in oil, pickles, olives, rice condiments, ready-made tomato sauces & pesto sauces.
 
The mature fruit produced from the caper bush, caper berries are usually pickled and have a soft flesh and often less intense flavour than their smaller counterparts.
 
On their own caper berries are often eaten in much the same way an olive would be eaten, they make a beautiful addition the most antipasti platters.
 
When used for cooking we do suggest rinsing and draining the berries to remove any excess brine. Capers are well suited to seafood dishes and can be used in condiments or sauces like Putanesca.
